New cooperation agreements
1 - Russian Cultural Center.
The
Safadi Foundation Cultural Center will open a section devoted to
Russian language instruction and hold cultural activities on behalf of
the Russian Cultural Center.
2
- The World Bank.
Launching the “Women’s Empowerment” project in Deir Dalloum, Akkar,
financed by the World Bank, in order to raise the living standards of
girls and women in the town, by developing their knowledge and
capacities in various realms of expression, participation, cooperation
and community development, in addition to boosting their participation
in socio-economic life.
3 - Mercy Corps.
-Distributing footballs to neighborhood clubs in Tripoli and all
government vocational and high schools in the north, thanks to a
donation from Mercy Corps, in order to build young people’s capacities
and awareness
-Launching the summer football regional camp in Tripoli, to direct
youngsters toward sporting and health activities to protect them from
anti-social behavior, promote personal and physical development, boost
good sportsmanship and cooperation among young people in low-income
areas, distant from the news of destruction and conflict that they see
in the outside world.
-Launching the “Regional Football Camp” for areas outside Tripoli,
especially those that are marginalized, in order to see balanced
development in all regions
-An
“interactive theater” project in Suweiqa, whose initial phase is being
funded by Mercy Corps, in order to impart special interactive theater
expertise to young volunteers in this domain, which will help young
people express themselves; this is part of the Our Center activity by
the Safadi Foundation in the Suweiqa area of Tripoli
4 - Spain’s Cervantes (Cultural)
Center.
The
agreement aims at opening a Cervantes center at the Safadi
Foundation’s Cultural Center to teach Spanish and spread Spanish and
Hispanic culture; the section will also hold a number of artistic and
cultural activities.
5 - British Council.
The
agreement aims at opening a center of the British Council at the
Safadi Foundation’s Cultural Center, in order to boost cultural,
intellectual and scientific ties between Lebanon and the UK, promote
individual development, develop society in all fields, provide British
Council services to the people of Tripoli; the section will organize
and hold various types of cultural activities.
6 - Aida Association (Spain) and
the Spanish Agency for International Development.
Launching of the “Strengthening Bee Husbandry in Akkar” project, to
develop the agricultural economy in this region, create job
opportunities in the north and boost the role of this promising sector
in low-income rural regions, through providing basic resources for
honey producers in North Lebanon.
7 - The Association for Danish
Cross-cultural Projects in Lebanon.
Launching of the “Open-air Sports” project in Tripoli, which promotes
football for youngsters; teaches the principles of equality,
sportsmanship and volunteer work; supports families; and promotes
basic principles such as sports for everyone, along with a new project
that has been implemented in European and Middle Eastern countries,
the “Open Football Schools”.
On going agreements
1
- British Embassy; Foreign Commonwealth Office.
Funding for the three-year “Women’s Academy” project, which aims at
empowering women, developing their personal and administrative
capacities, improving their economic situation and seeing them play
and active and participatory role in their local environment. The
project targets women from neighborhoods of Old Tripoli.
2 – Microsoft.
Cooperation in joint projects to close the digital gap, by improving
IT use in public schools and providing computer services to remote
areas and communities with special needs.
3 - French Cultural Mission.
French language training courses for students at public high schools
and the Lebanese University.
4. Cooperation agreement with the
Social and Economical Committee of the UNITED States for the West of
Asia (ESCWA) and PCA:
The
agreement's aim is to support three computer centers in AKKAR which
were opened by ESCWA organization in order to guaranty its
continuality through carrying out programs to build abilities and to
create job opportunities to reduct poverty in the marginal regions in
AKKAR.
Moreover, training materials will be given through the use of the
computers. These training materials will deal with two essential
issues: Secretarial Skills, and agricultural administration. And as
expected, these materials will help the most marginal categories
(women, youth and farmers) to inhance their abilities and to enable
them to improve their life circumstances.
5. Cooperation agreement with the UNDP & CDR & the united cooperative committee:
The
cooperation in developing and evolving the agricultural field and in
practicing the cooperation work in Al-Jouma-AKKAR and that will
happened through constructing four observatories to measure the
temperature and the humidity degrees in AKKAR EL-ATIKA towns, Bazbina
and Rahba, in addition to other 64 observatories for insects.
Moreover, agricultural guidance has to be ensured to struggle diseases
and insects and to help improving the kind of the agricultural
production and to redact the production charge.
6. The cooperation agreement with
the British Embassy:
Financing "Women Academy" project which extends along three years. The
project's aim is to impower women, improve their economical situation,
and to advance their role in their local environment.
All
women in the impoverished areas of Tripoli are considered to be the
aim of this project.
7.
Memorandum of Understanding with
the United Nations Development Program Establishing Community Access
Centers in Tripoli and Akkar
The Safadi
Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United
Nations Development Program with the aim of establishing two new
Community Access Centers (CACs): the first within the Haratuna
community center established by the Safadi Foundation in the old
center of Tripoli, and the second within
the agricultural center established by the foundation in Deir Dalloum,
Akkar.
8.
Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft
As part of
its endeavors to bridge the digital divide and provide ICT access to
underprivileged communities and rural communities in Lebanon, the
Safadi Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Microsoft.
The event took place on Thursday 8 September 2005 in Tripoli. Mr. Riad
Almeddine signed the Memorandum for Safadi Foundation & Mr. khalil
Abdel-Massih for Microsoft.
9. Cooperation agreement with the French Cultural Mission
The goal
of this agreement is to deliver French-Language training sessions for
students in public schools. The courses included 40 hours of
instruction, four hours, twice a week.
10. Cooperation agreement with the Goethe Institute
This
agreement involves establishing a German Dialogue Forum in Tripoli.
The Forum’s mission is to disseminate information about Germany in
Lebanon and make books, publications and audiovisual materials
available to the public.
Completed agreements
1. Cooperation agreement with the CDR-World Bank Community Development
Project
This
cooperation entails the establishment of a mobile edutainment facility
targeting children and youth in the old city of Tripoli.
2. Cooperation agreement with the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI)
The Safadi
Foundation has received funding from MEPI in order to implement the
Digital Reform Initiative (DiRI), which entails delivering English
Language training to the community in an attempt to bridge the digital
divide.
3. Cooperation Agreement with the American University of Beirut
As part of
environmental protection, the Foundation signed a cooperation
agreement with the American University of Beirut to study and measure
the gas ratio resulting from the decomposition of the radioactive
Uranium in the chain of natural radion “Radon” in the atmospheric
sphere in Lebanon.

4. Cooperation agreement with the Economic and Social Commission for
Western Asia (phase 2)
The second
cooperation agreement signed with ESCWA calls for the organization of
a national conference for the Development of Northern Lebanon.
5. Cooperation agreement with the Economic and Social Commission for
Western Asia (phase 1)
This
agreement entailed the following:
Identifying and prioritizing development activities for North Lebanon;
Specifying development activities with joint concern with the rest of
ESCWA region;
Producing detailed work plans to complete projects of joint concerns;
Exchange of expertise.
6. Cooperation agreement with the British Embassy
Under this
agreement, the foundation obtained funding to carry our artificial
insemination campaigns for cows along with a number of educational
seminars targeting livestock owners.
7. Cooperation agreement with UNESCO
This
agreement is part of the project “Bridging the Digital Divide” carried
out by UNESCO in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. It aimed
at improving the use of IT in public schools through:
Identifying needy public schools.
Refurbishing computer equipment.
Distributing refurbished computers to selected public schools.
