Guiding Principles
The
Foundation works developing the capacities of Lebanese farmers,
especially in North Lebanon, in order to improve their production and
boost their income. This is a particularly important issue because
agriculture is the main source of income for a large portion of the
working population in North Lebanon.
Goals
Adopting and disseminate the principles of sustainable
agriculture;
Improving agricultural production, rendering it internationally
competitive; and
Enhancing the role of agricultural cooperatives.
Programs & Activities
1. The Rural Development and Agricultural Quality Center
The Center
is located in the town of Deir Dalloum, Akkar. It provides
agricultural extension and technical services to farmers and supports
the agricultural sector and its development through providing
marketing, training and agricultural extension services to farmers and
livestock owners.
The Center
comprises the following:
A
nursery for fruit trees to produce new varieties that improve product
diversification and marketing;
Veterinary tests for livestock in order to prevent and treat diseases,
in addition to vaccination campaigns for cows and pregnant livestock;
Permanent exhibition for marketing rural production;
Lecture hall for training workshops and extension activities to all
workers in the sector; and
Laboratory testing for soil and agricultural products.
2. Mobile Soil Quality Testing Laboratory
The mobile
laboratory provides comprehensive soil quality testing. Tests include
the following:
Soil capacity and quality,
Types of suitable crops,
Type and amount of suitable fertilizer for crops and;
Quality of water used in irrigation and pesticide spraying.
Following
testing, a team of agricultural engineers offers necessary guidance to
farmers in order to train them in ways to preserve soil quality and
treat crop diseases.
3. Support for Cow Breeders
This
program is part of the Safadi Foundation’s efforts to assist livestock
and cow breeders in improving production. It includes:
Conducting artificial insemination for cows owned by agricultural
cooperatives and livestock owners.
Ultrasound testing for early pregnancy detection.

4. Agricultural Seminars & Conferences
The
Foundation conducts annually specialized seminars and conferences on
topics of interest to the agricultural community.
