Goals l Achievements

Coordinator: Azzam Dalati

The Foundation views Information and Communication Technology as a means to developing the capacities of individuals and groups, especially in remote and rural areas that lack both job opportunities and the ability to connect with the outside world.

Goals

Our goals in this sector include:

Inform the general public about the use of IT, and the opportunity it provides.

Strengthen the skills and technical expertise needed to empower communities, enabling them to obtain information and boost their levels of knowledge.

Encourage communities to use IT to open new horizons for learning and for work.

Achievments

1. Eradicating IT Illiteracy

In order to teach the basics of using computers and the Internet, the Foundation has established sixteen permanent IT training centers, four temporary summer centers, and a mobile learning center serving remote areas.

These centers are spread throughout North Lebanon, stretching as far down the coast as Jbeil, in order to provide training to the largest possible number of beneficiaries.

The Foundation has developed a training curriculum for a nine-week course, consisting of three hours of training per week. The training program targets two types of individuals:

Training in Information technology at the Zahirieh Center, Tripoli

People from all segments of society aged 16 and over; and

Professionals and those with certain specializations: doctors, lawyers, merchants, teachers, mukhtars, etc.

Geographical distribution of training centers

To involve the widest number of stakeholders, the Foundation cooperates as needed with local organizations, such as municipalities and associations, to implement advanced training programs, especially in remote areas.

During the 2001-2003 timeframe, a total of 17,623* people benefited from the Foundation's training sessions.
