Guiding Principles Environmental protection is a key strategy for safeguarding one of Lebanon’s most important resources, and sources of tourism. Awareness and education are two important elements to mobilize people and encourage them to play a fundamental role in preserving natural resources. Goals Raising environmental awareness in society at large, and in schools in particular; Strengthening the capacity of civil society and individuals and enabling them to play an effective role in protecting the environment; Partnering with environmental organizations, and providing them with the needed support to achieve common goals; and Coordinating and cooperating with governmental, regional and international organizations tasked with environmental protection. Programs & Activities 1. Public Gardens and Forest Rehabilitation The Foundation assists in setting up or rehabilitating public gardens in Northern Lebanon. This initiative is carried out in cooperation with local stakeholders such as NGOs or municipalities or local committees. In addition, necessary support is provided in order to contribute to the rehabilitation of forests. 2. Reforestation campaign This campaign, which is launched annually by the Foundation, covers all regions in Northern Lebanon and is implemented in cooperation with municipalities, civil associations, local groups, clubs and natural reserves. 3. Environmental Awareness Campaign As part of its effort to promote environmental awareness, Safadi Foundation launches and takes part in national campaigns in cooperation with environmental associations. In addition, training workshops are implemented in order to encourage schoolteachers to establish school environmental clubs. 4. Scientific Research In cooperation with universities and research centers, the Foundation undertakes studies related to specific environmental issues.
