As we
hear increasingly about the challenges and repercussions of
globalization, the problems faced by our societies are becoming
greater against a backdrop of growing unemployment, poverty and
backwardness, which reflects negatively on sustainable
development.
Now
more than ever, Lebanon is in dire need for radical economic,
social and environmental reforms. These reforms must meet people’s
basic health and education needs, arm them with the necessary
knowledge and skills to build the capacities of individuals and
empower them to face today’s challenges and benefit from available
opportunities.
Based
on these general principles, the Safadi Foundation began its
development efforts in year 2000. The work started by putting into
practice the Foundation’s driving motto “Wealth in Minds”, which
stems from our strong belief that people are Lebanon’s most
valuable resource.
Our
work at the Safadi Foundation is multi-dimensional and reflects
the numerous aspects of human development needs and challenges. We
focus on seven main thematic areas:
Information
and Communication Technology (ICT).
Sustainable
agriculture.
Social
development.
Healthcare.
Environment.
Education
and youth.
Sports.
Through this website, we are pleased to share with you information
which sheds light on the Foundation’s operation, programs and
activities within the seven thematic areas.
Notwithstanding the significant track record of our achievements,
we are aware that our path is still long and difficult. The
challenges faced by the world today create ever more pressing
societal needs, particularly increased poverty which is depriving
societies of their most basic rights.
We are
also aware that we can bring about change and overcome these
challenges with a development-oriented mindset. This involves
providing and enabling environment for the development of
communities, and empowering individuals to take charge in
determining their own future.
Together we can overcome the challenges . . . together we can take
the path of development . . . together we can see people secure a
life with dignity.
