A
review of 2010 reveals both challenges and unique celebrations
that have forever marked this past year. Natural disasters,
conflict and financial instability across the globe are not
merely events that we record in history; they are also a reality
that compels us to reaffirm our commitment, as human development
agencies, to alleviating the ever-growing impact of such
catastrophes on humanity.
This past year was also a
testimony of what can be achieved through progress, such as the
hosting of the 2010 World Cup in the African nation or the rise
of social media as an essential tool for sharing ideas,
experiences and opinions. We must use these milestones of
history as a platform to move forward in Lebanon and as global
citizens.
We have achieved so much,
but as we at Safadi Foundation find ourselves at the doorstep of
our 10th anniversary, we must remember the words of UN
Secretary-General H.E. Ban Ki-moon at the 2010 UN Summit marking
the 10th anniversary of the MDG Declaration: “None of us can be
truly fulfilled while so many lack the basics for a life in
dignity. None of us should be able to rest easy knowing the fear
and despair that pervade the human family.” Therefore, join us
as we have realigned our strategic approach to culminate this
first decade in pursuing our promise for a prosperous Lebanon
filled with dignity, freedom and hope for each and every human
being.
