The Safadi Foundation and the International Labour Organization Conclude Solar Energy Installation Project in Eleven Public Schools and Institutes Across Lebanon

The Safadi Foundation has concluded a solar energy installation project implemented with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO) as part of the PROSPECTS program, in cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture, Labor, and Education and Vocational Training. The initiative aims to provide clean and renewable energy and contribute to environmental sustainability.

The project began with the installation of a solar power system at the Lebanese Ministry of Labor building and continued with installations in eleven public schools and vocational institutes across various Lebanese regions. A unique feature of this project is that the technicians chosen to carry out the installations are graduates of work-based training courses in solar energy that were previously organized by the Safadi Foundation in several phases with ILO support. These individuals, well-versed in solar technology, are now applying their expertise to help drive Lebanon’s transition to renewable energy.

Omar Hammoud, Director of the Halba Technical Institute, noted that solar energy had brought life back to the institute after prolonged power outages caused by the deteriorating economic situation, which has affected all sectors, including education. Solar power has allowed students to learn in well-lit classrooms, facilitated the operation of electrical equipment and laboratories, and ensured a continuous water supply.

Those who were once students and trainees are now skilled technicians installing solar systems with professionalism and expertise. They shared how the additional skills they acquired in solar energy empowered them to apply their knowledge during the installation process and in various professional fields opened to them as a result of the training and certifications they received.

The schools and institutes where solar energy systems were installed or upgraded include:

  • Nasriyeh Rizk Bekaa Agricultural Technical School
  • Abdeh Agricultural School, Akkar
  • Fanar Agricultural School
  • Btater Public School
  • Dekwaneh Industrial Technical Institute
  • Halba Technical Institute
  • Al-Abrar Technical Institute, Baalbek
  • Al-Ain Technical Institute, Baalbek
  • Ras Baalbek Technical Institute
  • Al-Bireh Official Technical Institute
  • Sir Al-Dinniyeh Official Vocational School
