"TARABUT - Together for a Better Fahyaa" This new project funded by the European Union, marks the beginning of a partnership between Safadi Foundation and the Spanish organization AIDA.
Under the campaign title "Together for a Better Fahyaa", the Safadi Foundation, in collaboration with AIDA and with funding from the European Union, launched a new project titled "Tarabut", aimed at strengthening social cohesion in the Greater Fahyaa area, which includes Tripoli, El Mina, Beddawi, and Qalamoun.
The launch event was attended by Mrs. Violette Khairallah Safadi, Vice President of the Safadi Foundation and former minister; Ms. Sara Dominoni representing the European Union; Mr. Javier Gila from AIDA; Dr. Abdel Hamid Karami, Mayor of Tripoli; Mr. Abdallah Kabbara, Mayor of El Mina; Mr. Hassan Ghamrawi, Mayor of Beddawi; Mr. Rawad El Helou, Mayor of Qalamoun; Mr. Wael Zmerli, President of the Union of Municipalities of Fahyaa, represented by Engineer Dima Homsi, the Union’s Director; and Mr. Pedro Knayher, Head of the Social Affairs Department in North Lebanon.
The event began with the Lebanese national anthem and an opening speech, followed by a presentation from Project Manager Ms. Leila Arab, who outlined the project’s objectives and the collaborative approach to achieving tangible results. Mrs. Safadi emphasized the importance of the project, noting that it comes at a critical moment in Lebanon’s history, one that calls for initiatives to rebuild trust, open dialogue, and give youth a chance to shape the future. She highlighted the four main goals of the project and stressed that real development is not built on plans alone, but through partnerships among all stakeholders. She described Tarabut as a call to open the door to hope and build a more cohesive and just Fahyaa.
Mr. Gila noted that Tarabut is more than just a series of activities, it is a space for connection and collective action in a diverse and complex city like Tripoli. For AIDA, it represents an opportunity to deepen international cooperation beyond the present moment, rooted in the belief that the strength of the project lies in the people who make it possible and in the conviction that a more just and hopeful future can only be built together.
Dr. Karami emphasized that Tarabut is based on partnership and complementarity, giving the local community a central role in shaping the vision and crafting solutions. He affirmed the municipality’s full commitment as a partner in the project’s success and its openness to all initiatives that serve the city and its residents.
Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Ms. Dominoni stated that Tarabut’s strength lies in bringing together people from diverse backgrounds. Through this initiative, public institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations will stand side by side, building bridges, exchanging experiences, and learning from one another. She highlighted that when municipalities, entrepreneurs, youth, associations, and citizens collaborate to develop solutions for their city, the outcomes are stronger, more relevant, and more sustainable. She also stressed that lasting change cannot rely solely on projects, it requires institutional commitment, better governance, inclusive policies, and genuine reforms to ensure communities receive the support they need. In this way, Tripoli and Lebanon can strengthen their social fabric over the long term.
The Tarabut project serves as a platform for public institutions, civil society organizations, private sector actors, and various community members, especially youth, women, and persons with functional diversity. It promotes local participation through capacity building, public events, and targeted awareness campaigns, all designed around core needs and priorities that benefit the broader Tripoli community
